This depicts a typically grey, cold, overcast day at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz. The subject of this painting is really the water and the cold foggy air. The surfer is my lunatic (no wetsuit in 50° water) friend Jim Lucas. In the 80's he started an annual surf contest still held today called the "Surf-o-rama" - no leashes, only old longboards made in the 60's, wetsuits optional.
Morning cold spray kicked up by the ride and lit up like a 4th of July sparkler. Larry Miller, founder of Big Fish Surboards, taking the fast track at the Hook in Santa Cruz.
