About Steve:

Steve lives in San Jose, California and works primarily in pastels and acrylics.
He moved to California shortly after earning his BFA at the University of Connecticut.

"I was constantly drawing as a child, and after high school in Rhode Island I knew I wanted to study art.  Rhode Island School of Design is a world renowned art school, but I chose to attend the University of Connecticut, in part because the track coach recruited me to run high hurdles.  I was happy to find that UCONN had a very good fine arts school.   UCONN is in Storrs, CT, a small college town located in the Connecticut woods that is an attractive destination for some of the best artists in New York and New England to work and teach.  (Buy an old farm house, convert the barn to a studio, and teach while developing a the body of work that would find it's way to galleries in Manhattan or Boston).   I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to study there."

"After college I worked at a computer graphics company, but continued drawing and painting on my own time.  I moved to California and have had a long career in technology, but I never stopped seeing and appreciating images that were artistically inspirational."

"I believe that art is an intensely personal exercise.   While there is a level of craftsmanship and mastery of the media that's a prerequisite, it's the personal expression that lifts art out of craft.  For me, that's easier to achieve with an image I care about, find visually compelling, and can connect with on a personal level.
